Shhhhh………………

Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to simply be still and quiet?  Even if you are an introvert and would rather not be talking, for most people silence is hard to deal with.  We all seem to have a talent of creating noise of some kind.

In the chaos of our typical lifestyles, God is often calling us to be still and to turn inward to that holy place where the Prince of Peace has united Himself with the core of our being.  What do we have to lose if we take Him up on the offer and answer His calling?  How much would our relationship with God deepen if we were intentional about quieting our souls and simply sitting in His presence with no expectations?

I don’t know about you, but I need a constant reminder that God is not only with me, but He also lives in me.  Try this.  Find a quiet place, cup your hands over your ears and listen to your breath flowing in and out your lungs.  While you listen know that God is just as close to us as our breath because His Spirit lives in us.

When it comes to the practice of silence we are all amateurs and we always will be so the pressure of “doing it right” is off.  However, over time it does become easier and the benefits are immense.  We wake up one day and realize that we are loving the days of inward peace as we listen to the Holy Spirit tell us how much we are loved by our Father instead of listening to the applause or criticism of others.

Be still.
